Tips to avoid tax turmoil

Whether you plan to file online, on your own -or with a a tax professional, your taxes must be post marked today to avoid any penalties from the IRS.

They charge a 5 percent fee on your unpaid taxes for every month – or part of a month you’re late.

Jennifer Baca of Phillips and Baca said if you’re experiencing tax turmoil, it’s best to act fast.

“Get a form 48-68, which you can get from IRS.gov, or you can get from a tax preparer,” said Baca. “You estimate your liability then you mail your form to the Internal Revenue Service. Then your extension is good until the 16th of October this year.”
