Road rage victim says baby is okay after man allegedly runs them off the road
A Las Cruces woman spoke with ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom after she was rammed off the road in an alleged road rage incident.
Robert Quigley is charged with nine counts of Aggravated Assault.
He’s accused of trying to crash into a vehicle transporting a family. According to the Dona Ana county sheriff’s office, it happened on Holman road near Shoestring Ranch Saturday.
“It was very scary, just the way things happened. I’m glad my baby’s okay,” said the victim, who wished to remain anonymous.
The woman said she is lucky to be alive. She says she was driving when Quigley tried to run her off the road. She’s pregnant and her young daughter was in the back seat.
The woman says the 69-year-old man came speeding up behind her and began hitting her bumper. She says she pulled over on the side of the road and Quigley sped off.
He then suddenly turned back around and allegedly smashed into her car’s door.
The sheriff’s office says Quigley got out of his car and confronted the family. At that point, the father of the women’s children punched him.
The woman says she called 9-1-1. “There’s this old man. He was trying to pass us on the road and he turned around and hit us. He just took off.”
Someone who knows Quigley also called for help.
When the operator answered, the person who called on behalf of Quigly is heard saying, “I live with my friend and his father got into, I guess, a road rage incident. And the guy beat him up. (My friend) says he had a messed up set of ribs and his dad is bleeding.”
Investigators said no charges have been filed against the victim or the father of her children. Quigley remains jailed on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
