El Paso Zoo to celebrate World Elephant Day

Saturday is World Elephant Day and El Paso Zoo is celebrating during the weekend.

The Zoo will host a birthday party for its elephants, Savannah’s 65th and Juno’s 50th birthdays.

The party is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 13.

Activities include an elephant bubble bath, a birthday cake and song, elephant painting, a piñata, and elephant tales with zookeepers.

There will also be drawings for the chance to win elephant-related prizes, including art created by the elephants.

World Elephant Day is observed around the world, is dedicated to raising awareness to the extinction challenges Asian and African elephants face.

The public is encouraged to assist to the events to learn more about elephants at the zoo and donate to conservation efforts.
