Halloween and Dia de los Muertos events happening across El Paso

This year there are dozens of family events to celebrate Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. Below is a list provided by the City of El Paso on the various activities hosted by different City Departments:

Parks and Recreation Department
Parks and Recreation invites families to dress up, collect candy and play games during the free,
“Halloween Happiness” celebration from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, at the 14
recreation centers below:

Gus and Goldie Pumpkin Patch Pool Dive
Saturday, October 26
10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Armijo Aquatic Center, 911 S. Ochoa
In the free event, children 5 to 12 can get floating pumpkins while they last in the zero-depth pool.
The pool is open for swimming at no charge.

Museums and Cultural Affairs Department

El Paso Museum of History
La Catrina Streetcar Tour with La Calaca Maldonado
Thursday, October 17 & Thursday, October 24
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ride the streetcar downtown with La Calaca Maldonado as she tells the history of Dia de los Muertos
and La Catrina. Join us afterwards for hot chocolate, pan dulces, and a photo op with La Calaca
Maldonado.

Día de los Muertos Altar & Sugar Skull Workshops
Saturday, October 19
Noon to 3 p.m.
Learn about the symbolism behind Dia de los Muertos altars, then create your own sugar skulls,
paper flowers, and other altar decor. Take the crafts home or contribute to our community altar,
hosted at El Paso Museum of History through November 2.

Evening of Border Art & Literature
Thursday, October 31
6 p.m.
Guillermo Gómez-Peña presents a unique perspective on the immediate future of the Americas.
Combining spoken word poetry, activist theory, radical storytelling, and language experimentation,
Gómez-Peña performance with Balitronica is what he calls “imaginary activism,” a form of radical
democracy and citizenship.

Altar de Muertos
Thursday, October 31
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Dia de los Muertos Kicks off with a celebration of life by the Consulate general of Mexico in El Paso.
The event will feature a Dia de los Muertos altar, music, hot chocolate and pan de muerto. Altar will
be on view through November 3.

Dia de los Muertos Festival
Saturday, November 2
2 p.m. to 9 p.m. (parade starts at 5 p.m.)
Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with free hands-on activities, music and artisan vendors located
throughout the arts district. Activities will be presented by the El Paso Museum of Art, the El Paso
Museum of History, the Downtown Art and Farmers Market and the Mexican American Cultural
Center.

El Paso Zoo
Boo at the Zoo
Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Family-friendly event features pumpkin bowling, a creepy crawly glow in the dark bug room, a haunted
house, live entertainment and more! The first 2,500 kids each day will receive a trick-or-treat bag.
