Man stabbed after asking for help buying beer and cigarettes

Police arrested a 33-year-old man accused of robbing and stabbing his victim.

Officers responded to a stabbing call in the 100 block of N. Kansas, where they found 25-year-old Aaron Lira with stab wounds to an arm and his chest.

Police say Lira was unable to purchase beer or cigarettes because he did not have a valid identification card. Lira allegedly asked 33-year-old Christopher Daniel Grimes, whom he did not know, to make the purchase and gave Grimes money.

With Lira’s money in hand, Grimes allegedly ran off, police said. A struggle ensued after Lira chased and captured Grimes.

During the struggle, Grimes allegedly stabbed Lira, later transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers searching the area, police located Grimes and took him into custody on a charge of Aggravated Robbery. Police said Grimes’ mugshot is not yet available.
