K9 Classic brings dogs and humans together

The El Paso Humane Society held the 29th annual K9 Classic walk and fundraiser Sunday. Plenty of two and four-legged friends turned up to Eastwood Park, and it was one big tail wagging party.

The Humane Society brought together dog owners with adoption candidates and it seemed people had a good time.

The K9 Classic is a big even from the Humane Society but they said it’s about more than fundraising.

“Socializing your dogs is very important. Bringing your dogs out, spending time with other dogs and spending time with other people is very important for their mental and physical health,” said Patti Hack, with the El Paso Humane Society.

Some dogs dressed up for the day, with families taking a look at the adoption candidates to see if they could make their families grow.

“Definitely we are ready to adopt a brother for him,” said visitor Fernando Salazar.

Foster parents with the Humane Society took their charges to the walk, giving people a chance to meet and possibly keep the dogs they had been caring for, waiting for a home.

“We’re so excited when this dog gets adopted because the family gets a new dog that we loved and got to get attached to, so when we get to give that dog to another family that can enjoy it for the rest of their lives that’s great,” said Porsha Simmons.

Be it fostering, volunteering, or adopting, the Humane Society gave families a chance to come together and enjoy time with their four legged friends.

“Fostering is a very short amount of time. If you have just a little bit of extra space in your home and a little bit of extra love you can foster a dog,” Simmons said.
