Barber shop offers up free fades for prom

A group of barbers and hair stylists packed up their gear and went to Ysleta High School to give free haircuts ahead of prom.

Versatile Fades Barber Shop provided free hairdos for several boys inside the school’s band room.

Bobby Boulding, or Big Man the Barber, said when he was younger he never got the opportunity to get haircuts.

“It feels good to give back to the community,” he said.

Dozens of students lined up for their hair cut.

“It’s pretty cool. I’m hoping for a really cool haircut and I’m grateful for our school to give us this great opportunity,” student Pedro Amaya said.

Others knew exactly what they wanted.

“I want to get a trim on the sides and make the top of my head two inches,” student Charles Perez said.

An assistant principal said Versatile Fades simply offered their services and the school accepted.

“We’re very blessed,” said Amy Bejarano-Alarcon, YHS assistant principal. “The community members are willing to work with us and help us take some of the burden off of our parents and give some our kids their hair cuts.”
