5k, one-mile race memorializes fallen EPPD heroes

A race this Saturday is being held in honor of fallen law enforcers within the El Paso Police Department.

The run specifically memorializes Officer Karl McDonough, who died in 2010 after a suspected drunken driver slammed into his patrol car with him and his partner inside.

Peace Officers Memorial Day is May 15 every year and the week that date falls in is always recognized as National Police Week.

The race starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Tropical Smoothie Cafe at the Fountains at Farah. The address is 8889 Gateway Blvd. West.

Regular race prices are $25 and go up to $30 on race day. Buy tickets here.

There will be goodie bags prepared for the first 250 runners and refreshments at the end for all participants.

The top three runners in both the male and female categories will receive trophies and all participants will receive a medal.
