Key races in November general election
The primary runoff election is now in the past and El Paso voters look ahead to the November general election.
One major race El Pasoans and Texans are following is for Texas senator. Democrat Congressman Beto O’Rourke is looking to unseat Senator Ted Cruz, who is running for another term.
A new poll released Tuesday by JMC analytics has O’rourke trailing Cruz by seven points, Cruz sitting at 47 percent and O’Rourke with 40 percent.
A third candidate, Independent Jonathan Jenkins with six percent.
When it comes to favorability, Cruz is not in the lead. He trails O’Rourke with 20 percent and 35 percent of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of O’Rourke.
Other races include Congressional District 23, which runs from San Antonio to far east El Paso.
Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones, a former Air Force intelligence officer is challenging Republican Will Hurd.
Former El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar is running for Congress. She’ll now take on Republican candidate Rick Seeberger for Congressional District 16.
Democrat State Representative Joe Moody is running for re-election. He ran unopposed in the primary election.
Moody will go up against Republican Jeffrey Lane.
Voters will also decide in Governor Greg Abbott will get a second term.
The general election is November 6.
