Doa Ana County man guilty of sexually assaulting girl

A Doña Ana County man is facing in between 12 and 27 years in prison after a jury convicted him of sexually assaulting a girl.

A jury Friday found 37-year-old Sergio Arredondo guilty of Criminal Sexual Penetration of a Child Under 13 and Criminal Sexual Contact of a Child Under 13.

“I congratulate the jury for the work they put into this verdict. They listened to and believed this young women as she testified about the abuse she suffered. Justice was done today,” said District Attorney Mark D’Antonio.

Police arrested Arredondo in May 2015 after the victim’s mother found the victim’s diary, in which the victim wrote Arredondo sexually assaulted her.

When detectives spoke with he victim, she told them the sexual assault first happened when she was six or seven years old and Arredondo harassed and abused her for years.

ABC-7 does not identify the victims of sexual assault. Arredondo will be sentenced later this year.
