El Paso deacon set to become priest

An El Paso deacon is set to become a priest with the Catholic Diocese of El Paso.

Michael Lewis will be properly ordained to the Sacred Order of Diaconate 6:30 pm Friday at St. Patrick Cathedral in El Paso.

He will begin his priest tenure at the St. John the Apostle in Monahans.

“This is huge for the church,” Diocese of El Paso Bishop Mark J. Seitz said. “it’s a very hopeful time for the Diocese of El Paso. Many dioceses around the country have really struggled with vocations but we’re so blessed because we’ve turned the direction around.”

Lewis is an El Paso native who spent the last four years studying Theology at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago.

Deacon Miguel Perez will also partake in the priest ordination Friday.
