For those looking for something a beyond film, the festival will also present the acclaimed concert film documentary/video album Nine Inch Nails Live: Beside You in Time for free on August 3rd. Meanwhile, those looking for something more on the comedic side can watch Gabriel Iglesias: I’m Not Fat … I’m Fluffy on Friday, August 10th.
In addition to major films, the festival has also become a major showcase for regional filmmakers interested in submitting their work through the festival’s Local Flavor series. Sponsored by the Texas film Commission, it screens features, shorts, documentaries and other projects from regional filmmakers for audiences to see. A cash reward of $1,000 will be given to the best of the year’s entries, which the filmmaker can use for future projects.
Over the years the festival has expanded to include outdoor movies and concerts on Oregon Street next to San Jacinto Plaza, exhibitions and programs at the El Paso Museum of Art and the El Paso Museum of History, a film camp at the El Paso Public Library and what organizers call a Drive-in/Walk-up movies nine stories up atop the Mills Plaza Parking Garage.
Acclaimed actress, author and activist Ali MacGraw is set to headline PCFF 2018, while two-time Academy Award nominee Bruce Dern will also appear at the festival. Both are set to take the stage alongside some of their films showing at the festival, as well as conduct autograph signings for festival-goers.
Started by the El Paso Community Foundation in 2008, the Plaza Classic Film Festival was designed with the purpose of bringing movies back to the historic Plaza Theatre. Growing into the world’s largest classic film festival, more than 400,000 people have attended the first ten festival’s, bringing about a beneficial economical impact for El Paso annually.
The festival has even captured the attention of big names within the film industry, as celebrity guests in past years include Al Pacino, Debbie Reynolds, Tippi Hedren, Gary Goldman, Elsa Cardenas, Kathleen Turner, Louise Fletcher and many more.
