5 new virus deaths reported in El Paso; recoveries outpace new cases for 2nd straight day

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Five more people have died of Covid-19 in El Paso County, according to new numbers released by the Department of Public Health Wednesday morning.

Health officials identified the victims as two men in their 50s, one man in his 70s, a man in his 90s, and a woman in her 60s.

All had underlying medical conditions except for the man in his 50s.

The death toll now stands at 88. There were 39 new cases identified, but 93 more people have recovered. For the second day in a row, the number of active cases decreased. There are 987 active cases in the county, the lowest since May 21.

The total now stands at 2,872 with nearly 1,800 people having already recovered.

There are 91 people in the hospital, 54 are in the ICU and 30 are on ventilators.

Free coronavirus testing has been extended in El Paso County until June 12.
