El Paso County officials unveil plans for Aug. 3 shooting anniversary remembrance

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego and other local leaders unveiled plans Thursday afternoon for the upcoming Aug. 3 mass shooting anniversary remembrance.

Here's what the judge outlined...

  • On Aug. 2, Ascarate Park will open to the public at 8:30 p.m. for a Drive-Thru Luminaria Remembrance event which will be hosted by United Way of El Paso County. The park will be open again on the evening of Aug. 3 for the community to view the luminarias once more.
  • The County will hold a groundbreaking for the Community Healing Garden on Aug. 2 along with JAR Construction. The groundbreaking will be followed by a private service which will be hosted by Bishop Mark Seitz and the Interfaith Alliance of the Southwest. Donations to help fund the Community Healing Garden can be made by visiting: epcf.org/news/18-county-of-el-paso-healing-garden.
  • There will be other Covid-safe activities that will be organized during the first week of August. Those activities will be posted online at elpasounited.org/loveforelpaso.
