Richardson Signs Las Cruces License Plate Bill Into Law

SANTA FE — Governor Bill Richardsonon Tuesdaysignedlegislation which approvesa specialty license plate to be issued onlyto Las Cruces residents.

The license plates, estimated to cost $35 each, would generate additional revenue for Las Cruces’ recreation fund.

The New MexicoMotor Vehicle Division would retain $10 for the manufacture and issuance of the plates and the remaining $25 will be paid to the state treasurer and appropriated to the city of Las Cruces recreation fund.

Mayor Ken Miyagishima is currently considering a process for the license plate designs. He has said the plates will help provide an identity for the city and their issuance would generate much needed revenue for city programs.
