Sunland Park starts phase 4 of Anapra construction project

SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KVIA) -- Tuesday, the City of Sunland Park broke ground on construction of Calle Carrosel and Obregon in the Anapra neighborhood. The groundbreaking marks the fourth phase of the street construction project.

The project will reubuild the streets with new concrete, accessible sidewalks, driveway pads and other amenities. It will also replace more than one thousand feet of water line with new hydrants and service connections.

Sunland Park Mayor Javier Perea said the improvements will bring benefits to the community.

"One thing the community is in a bit of a bowl and all of the infrastructure that we've put up to today to make sure that the water doesn't stay within that community and get pushed out into the Rio Grande has been completed, but this is going to continue adding to that infrastructure," he said.

Mayor Perea said the construction is expected to last about five months.

The city said the public changed the project's design to save room for emergency vehicles. The project contract, valued at $1.38 million, went to a Sunland Park company.
