El Paso County jail, annex pass state inspection

El Paso, Texas (KVIA) - The El Paso County Sheriff reports that both the downtown detention facility and the jail annex is far east El Paso have passed a surprise inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail standards or TCJS.

“Our detention facilities operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and passing an unannounced inspection at both facilities reflects the professionalism, accountability, and hard work of our detention staff every single day,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “We are proud of these results, but we also know maintaining these standards requires the proper staffing and resources. We will continue advocating for our employees and ensuring they have what they need to safely and effectively operate our facilities so we can continue meeting the standards expected of us.”

The "unannounced" inspections occurred this week and inspectors conducted reviews of both facilities to evaluate state jail standards compliance.

The sheriff said the inspectors provided feedback on his detention staff and the operation of the facilities which he said were described as "top tier".
