TX Special Session: ‘Bathroom bills’ appearing to die out with limited time left
As the special session in the Texas Legislature nears its end, supporters and opponents of the so-called bathroom bill continue to flood the state capitol building.
Monday, civil rights groups gathered in Austin to deliver a list of 50,000 signatures from Texans against the bill to the governor, lieutenant governor and the House speaker.
The organizations say the bill targets transgender Texans and that lawmakers shouldn’t legalize discrimination.
Meantime, inside the Capitol, Republicans in the House showed support for the bill.
The bill’s author, Rep. Ron Simmons, (R)Carrollton, says his bill is common sense legislation and he believes it deserves a vote.
