El Paso Chihuahuas are the 2017 PCL Pacific Southern Division Champions

The EL Paso Chihuahuas have done it again.

For the third straight season the Chihuahuas clinched the PCL Pacific-Southern Division title after beating the Sacramento River Cats Sunday night 7-3.

With one more game left to play in the regular season, the Chihuahuas sit at the top of the division with a record of 73-68.

El Paso is now headed to the playoffs for the third straight year.

Last season the Chihuahuas won the PCL Championship, but lost in the Triple-A Championship game against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

El Paso was in control of its own destiny Sunday night.

All they needed to do was get one more win on the road against Sacramento.

They could have also clinched the division if the Salt Lake Bees lost to the Fresno Grizzlies on Sunday, but the Chihuahuas didn’t need Fresno’s help.

In the top of the 1st inning Hunter Renfroe hit a grand slam to put the Chihuahuas on the board early 4-0.

Later in the inning, El Paso’s Tony Cruz hit a 2-run homerun to make it 6-0 in favor of the Chihuahuas.

The Chihuahuas never gave up the lead and the River Cats were only able to get 3 runs off of a 3-run homer by Steven Duggar in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Chihuahuas wrap-up the regular season on Monday with an afternoon game against the River Cats.

They’ll be returning to El Paso as 3X PCL Pacific-Southern Division Champions.
