Borderland first responders commemorate those who lost their lives on 9/11

Monday morning, the El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Police Department and El Paso Sheriff’s Office paid tribute to the 9/11 victims during a special ceremony. It took place at Station 18 located at 7901 San Jose Road at 9 a.m.

The fire chief, police chief and sheriff shared their reflections from that day and presented a wreath at the memorial.

El Paso police Lt. John C. Schneider, the key note speaker, was a member of the New York Police Department in Manhattan when the twin towers fell.

“Everyday, we want to make a sacrifice and we want to protect,” Schneider said. “On that day, we did more service than protecting which was frustrating because there was no way to protect people from planes coming into the building.”

Monday marked 16 years since the Sept.11 attacks.
