Despite loss, Chihuahuas fans remain loyal

Despite the El Paso Chihuahuas’ frustrating loss against the Memphis Redbirds for the winner-take-all Pacific Coast League Championship, die-hard fans say they will continue to support their team next season.

“The young men that have been on this team from the beginning, have been just super young men,” said Barbara Foley, who waited outside the dugout for autographs. “They’re amazing.”

This would have been the second year the Chihuahuas win the Pacific Coast League Championship. Last year, the Chihuahuas won the championship against Oklahoma City 4-3, becoming Pacific Coast League Champions for the first time in the team’s 3-year history.

“(They) gave us the opportunity to witness one of the best games of the season,” said Pedro Guerrero, who attended the game with his son, Kaleb.

Edna Ogaz attended the game with her 96-year-old mother, Martha Sanchez.

“It’s in our blood – baseball,” Ogaz said. “We think being supportive of them tells us who we are as El Pasoans.”

The Redbirds will advance to challenge the Durham Bulls for the Triple A Championship.
