Police say central El Paso shooting stemmed from man insulting another man’s wife

EL PASO, Texas -- A central El Paso weekend shooting stemmed from a man insulting another man's wife, police said Monday.

The shooting happened Sunday evening in a commercial/business area of central El Paso in the 4000 block of Monroe, near U.S. 54 and Cassidy Road.

Investigators on Monday said the witnesses disarmed 53–year-old William Wallace Franklin and held him until officers arrived. He was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.

The shooting victim, 34–year-old James Kevin Crist, was listed in stable condition at University Medical Center, where he remained hospitalized for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

"Investigators found that Franklin shot Crist after a physical altercation occurred over comments Franklin made to Crist’s wife," police wrote in an incident report released Monday.

Franklin was being held on $100,000 bond in the El Paso County Detention Facility.
