Israel’s Netanyahu lashes out at prosecution, compares corruption trial to ‘coup attempt’

JERUSALEM (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial has resumed, with a key witness painting a picture of an image-obsessed Israeli leader forcing a prominent news site to flatter his family and smear his opponents. Monday’s testimony came as Netanyahu’s chances of securing another term in office appeared to be dwindling in high-stakes post-election political talks hosted by the country’s figurehead president. Netanyahu angrily accused prosecutors of trying to oust him and undermining the will of the nation’s voters. “This is what a coup attempt looks like,” he said on national TV.
