Motorcyclist critically injured in crash along Main Street in Las Cruces

A Las Cruces motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition following an early Friday morning crash along south Main Street that authorities blamed on a combination of wet pavement and speeding.

Police said the 20-year-old man lost control of his motorcycle after passing several vehicles and struck a curb about 1:30 a.m. on south Main near Melendres Street.

“The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike and came to a rest in the median,” said Las Cruces Police spokesman Dan Trujillo.

The victim was flown to an El Paso with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical at University Medical Center. His name was not released.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling at an “excessive speed” while it was raining, which resulted in slick road conditions.
