19 new El Paso virus deaths; active cases drop for 1st time in 6 weeks
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health reported 19 coronavirus-related deaths and 672 new cases Thursday.
The death toll stands at 823 in El Paso County.
All 19 patients had underlying health conditions, which is a broad term encompassing many varied factors. The deceased included:
- 1 man in his 40s
- 5 men in their 50s
- 1 woman in her 50s
- 2 men in their 60s
- 3 women in their 60s
- 1 woman in her 70s
- 4 men in their 80s
- 2 women in their 80s
The health department reported the deaths did not occur on the same day. Some deaths date back to July, while other deaths occurred this week.
Officials did not explain why there was such a long delay in confirming the cause of some of the deaths.
El Paso reported its fewest number of daily coronavirus cases since Oct. 25.
For the first time in six weeks, the number of known active cases decreased. It now stands at 34,755, which is 64 fewer cases than Wednesday.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 77,977 confirmed cases with 41,941 reported recoveries. Doctors caution that some recovered persons may still experience ongoing health issues due to having been infected.
Hospitalizations increased from 1,052 to 1,074. The number of ICU patients decreased from 325 (a record) to 315.
