The Nate-ure Report: Meet an anteater that’s actually allergic to ants

EL PASO, Texas -- Many folks have taken to adopting a pet while they wait out the coronavirus pandemic. But in the latest edition of "The Nate-ure Report" Nate Ryan plays pet with the Layla the Tamandua, the El Paso Zoo's South American Lesser Anteater.

Ironically at the zoo, the Anteater is allergic to.... ants!

"She’s actually allergic to ants!" says zookeeper Felecia Sluss of Layla the Anteater.

"Our suspicion is because she’s not used to the ants in Texas," the zookeeper explained. "We’re not going to import ants from South America because then we'd have invasive species. And that would not be good!

The anteater at the zoo is leash trained, just like a regular house dog. So Nate decided to talk the anteater for a little jaunt around the Zoo to make some new friends.

Check out the attached video at the top of this article to see the reactions of the giraffe, meerkats, and jaguar to Nate and the anteater's visit.
