City May Seize Historic Mansion
EL PASO, TX. – The City of El Paso may move to seize a historic home before the structure deteriorates further.
City officials are talking about the historic A.B. Fall mansion in Central El Paso and they believe it is in danger. Officials are talking about seizing the home from its owners by the use of eminent domain.
The home is owned by the Abraham family. They also own many properties and buildings around the Sun City. The A.B Fall home sits on the corner of Arizona and Cliff streets in Central El Paso.
In 2004 the home was considered one of the “most endangered places in Texas.” Some City Council reps described the house as “sick” and they want it to be fixed or seized from the Abraham’s:
With the use of eminent domain, the city would take over the home to prevent it from being destroyed or damaged any further. City Development Services Larry Nichols tells ABC-7,”It’s been more than three years [in this condition]….it needs many repairs and has many unsafe conditions.”
The Fall Mansion property manager was out of town Tuesday, but did send ABC-7 the following statement:
City Council will continue to discuss the seizure of this home at its meeting next week.
