Borderland Residents Celebrate Cesar Chavez Day
EL PASO, Tx- Many in the Borderland gathered to celebrate and remember the life of migrant farmworker activist, Cesar Chavez.
Live entertainment filled the air at the La Fe Cultural and Technology Center as people gathered to remember what Cesar Chavez did for migrant farm workers.
A migrant farm worker himself, in 1966 Cesar Chavez helped found the United Farmworkers of Amera and led a strike that boycotted grapes to get higher wages for farm workers.
People at Saturday’s event say thatone should not just remember what he did, but also what he believed,”We need to be human beings to each other. And not let our differences divide us, but rather let us work together for the common good.”
Today, Cesar Chavez would have celebrated his 80th birthday.
