Roller King Closes After 25 Years

EL PASO — The Roller Kingin EastEl Pasois closing its doors after more than 25 years.

“Its been here for a long time and it is really sad to see it close,” said Carlos Sanchez.

Many long-time customers said they found out about the bad news from an empty parking lot and a letter posted on the door.

“Many years ago, when I was young, it was the place to go meet your friends after school or during the weekends,” said Steve Estelas.

Estelas said he is worried kids in the neighborhood will now have fewer options for entertainment. “There’s nowhere else to go. Now, they’ll have more kids in the streets,” he said.

One lady said her perception of Roller King has changed in recent years. “It’s become something different now. Now, you see little kids making out there. That’s why I’m sort of glad it is closing … it was becoming really bad,” she said.

The closure signs posted in the front door thank all patrons for 25 years of great memories, but no information was leftas towhy the owners are closing up shop.
