CBP Officers Cancel Broadcast Of 60 Pounds Of Pot

EL PASO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officersseized60 pounds of marijuana at the Bridge of the Americas Saturday.

Officials said the significance of the seizure was the fact that the pot was concealed inside of a 36-inch television.

Officers arrested Carlos L. Macedo-Soto, 21, a Mexican citizen and charged him with importation of a controlled substance. Macedo-Soto was attempting to enter the U.S. ina 1989 burgundy Toyota Camry station wagon.

According to officials, theMacedo-Soto said he had nothing to declare and informed agentshe was visiting El Paso to go shopping and to return a television that was not working.

Macedo-Soto was referred to a secondary inspection stationfor further examination after he displayed nervous behavior, officials said. A drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to 61 bundles ofpot concealed inside of the television.

“Smuggling organizations will use every imaginable concealment method to get the narcotics through our international ports of entry,” said Arthur Gonzales, Acting CBP Port Director in El Paso.
