Teen Arrested In Carlsbad Will Be Tried As Adult

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) – A 16-year-old Carlsbad boy charged with the death of another teen will be tried as an adult.

State District Judge Thomas Rutledge on Monday bound John Gamble over for trial as a serious youthful offender, saying there’s a provision in the law for a teen age 15 or older to be tried as an adult.

Gamble is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, retaliation against a witness and tampering with evidence in the death of 15-year-old Joseph Garcia.

His body was found beaten and burned on a dirt road in Carlsbad on Oct. 12.
