American Woman Shot And Killed In Juarez
JUAREZ, Mexico — An American woman who was shotin Downtown Juarezand wasbeing transported to the United States for treatment has died.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesman Roger Maiertold ABC-7 the woman was an American citizen. Chihuahua State Police identified her as 32-year-old Ana Lourdes Hernandez Guzman.
Maier said thata Mexican ambulance entered the CBP inspection area traveling north through the southbound lane. The unit was escorted by a Mexican police unit.
CBP called 911 about noon Tuesday afternoon and a U.S. ambulance arrived to transportHernandez Guzmanat the Bridge of the Americas.The ambulance arrived at Thomason Hospital, but by thenshe had died of her injuries, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed.
CBP secured the Mexican officers and their weapons for safety reasons, but they were released and returned to Mexico because it was clear their entry into the U.S. was to obtain first aid for thevictim, Maier said.
The alleged shooting happenedat Plomo and Samaniego streets.Hernandez Guzmanreceived two bullet wounds in the abdomen.
Chihuahua State Police are the lead agency looking into the shooting. As of Wednesday they said there were no new developments in the case.
