Missing Children From Michigan Returned To Father

DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. — Two children who were reported missing last week by their father have been returned to him in Michigan, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials said.

Tasha Mead, the mother of Micheal Mead, Jr., and his sister Rowan, called the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office Monday morning to turn herself in. She said she had arrived in Michigan with the children on Sunday and wanted to cooperate with authorities.

At 12:45 p.m. Monday, Michael Mead, Sr., the children’s father, told the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office that the children had been returned to him safely. Extradition will not not be pursued, officials said.

Investigators said Tasha Mead refused to return the children to their father who has sole custody of the children.

Instead, authorities said she took them from Michigan to Las Cruces where she has family.

She told sheriff’s officials that she had left the Las Cruces area last Thursday, not knowing there was a warrant out for her arrest.
