Honor Flag to be presented at killed police Officer Adrian Arellano’s funeral
The flag that flew over the World Trade Center efforts after the Sept. 11 attacks was presented Sunday at Chuck Heinrick’s Park in honor of Adrian Arellano, a 10-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department.
Arellano was killed while escorting a funeral procession Wednesday afternoon.
Founder of the Honor Flag Project, Chris Heisler, brought the flag, then delivered it to the funeral home.
Since September 2001, the United States Honor Flag has paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting lives, homes and the U.S.
Arellano’s funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm at St. Raphael Catholic Church.
El Paso police said the woman accused of driving into Arellano’s path is Maria Soto, and that she ignored direction from the other officer guiding the procession. A police spokesman said Soto was driving on Edgemere Boulevard and had the green light when approaching Yarbrough Drive, and when the other escort officer motioned for her to stop, Soto ignored him.
Visitation will take place Monday, March 23, 2015 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home with rosary at 7:00pm.
Correction: Story has been corrected to reflect that the Honor Flag flew over the recovery efforts after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack and not over the World Trade Center when the attack happened. We regret the error.
