Hundreds attend Couples and Family Expo at convention center

Borderland residents flocked to the Couples and Family Expo Saturday, organized by the Elegant Penguin at the El Paso Convention Center in downtown.

The event held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, featured laser tag, video games, and painting for kids and families to enjoy. There was also appearance by Marc Brown, author of the children’s book series “Arthur the Aardvark” and television show on PBS. Brown shared advice for kids interested in becoming writers.

“I like to inspire kids to read,” Brown said. “I love inspire them to write their own stories, and share with them how I do it, what my process is. Because I tell kids no matter what they want to be you have to know how to communicate and writing is very important no matter what you want to be.”

“I think in society, not just now but always,” said Aurora Lara, owner of the Elegant Penguin, “”it’s important, with what you have been blessed with, it’s important that you give back. So this has been huge.”
