Harry Connick Jr. — Connick will kick off his 2016 Spring Tour at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Plaza Theatre. Recognized for his live and recorded musical performances and for his achievements on screens large and small, as well as on the Broadway stage, Connick, who is also a judge on “American Idol,” has exemplified excellence in every aspect of the entertainment world. Connick’s career took off with his self-titled debut album at age 18. His follow-up album, “20,” announced that Connick was equally gifted as a singer. His first multi-platinum success was with the soundtrack for the hit comedy “When Harry Met Sally.” To date, Connick has released 30 albums, won three Grammy Awards and two Emmy Awards, and garnered sales of over 28 million. His most recent CD release “That Would Be Me” features all new songs.
In addition to his music career, Connick has also appeared on the screen and stage as an actor. Awadagin Pratt — El Paso Pro-Musica presents the return of the world acclaimed pianist 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at UTEP’s Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall, in a concert featuring the works of Beethoven and Bach. The winner of the coveted Naumberg International Piano Competition, Pratt has performed numerous times for President Obama at the White House. Based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, “Fiddler on the Roof” tells the story of a poor milkman who cares for his five daughters. Mile High Chili Cook Off — The 2nd annual cook off is Saturday, April 23, at Davis Mountains State Park in Fort Davis, Texas, in cooperation with the Chili Appreciation Society International. Musical entertainment by the Last Call Band is noon with chili tasting begins at 1 p.m. “Throw Down Pack” for samples is $4 per person donation (includes a cup, spoon, bottle of water and a napkin). All donations go directly to benefit the park and its visitors. Park entrance fee is waived for all visitors during the cook-off.
