Chihuahuas take down Salt Lake 8-5 on the road
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A five-run fifth inning carried the El Paso Chihuahuas to an 8-5 victory over the Salt Lake Bees Monday night at Smith’s Ballpark. The Chihuahuas have won four of their last five games.
Down 3-1 entering the fifth, El Paso batted around, compiling six hits, while taking advantage of a Salt Lake error and two Bees’ wild pitches. The rally included a two-run single by Alex Dickerson, an RBI single by Carlos Asuaje and a sacrifice fly by James Loney.
Loney went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and his first minor league home run since 2007. Ryan Schimpf went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, his fourth of the season to tie Hunter Renfroe for the team lead. Renfroe did not go deep on Monday, ending his streak of consecutive games with a home run at four. Renfroe tied Cody Decker for the Chihuahuas’ team record, with Decker also homering in four consecutive games in late August of 2014.
El Paso’s 19 home runs lead the Pacific Coast League.
