Committee set to discuss EPISD District of Innovation plan next week

The El Paso Independent School District has been in the works to usher in a new era of education.

The district is looking to attain a “District of Innovation” status.

The status would give the district more control over class sizes, attendance rules and school start dates, among other state education rules.

The district has created a committee to create a plan that will eventually go before the board of trustees.

According to the district, the board of trustees approved the initial draft and moved to notify the Commissioner of Education of its intention to adopt it.

The plan has been revised and the board of trustees is expected to formally approve it in May.

The meeting will take place May 3 at the Professional Development Center located at 6500 Boeing. A meeting scheduled for April 26 was canceled.
