Son accused of stabbing mom to death at Anthony home
ANTHONY, New Mexico -- A 22-year-old Anthony man with an apparent history of mental issues is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his mother, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives said Tuesday.
Arturo Deandre Parra was being held without bond Tuesday in the Doña Ana County Detention Center. In addition to murder, he was also booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
The deadly stabbing happened about 7 p.m. Monday at a home in the 400 block of Tierra Dorada Circle. Blood stains could still be seen on the front door to a neighbor's home on Tuesday; those neighbors told ABC-7 that the victim ran next door seeking help after being attacked.
The victim, Elvia Martinez de Parra who authorities said was in her 40s, was taken to an El Paso-area hospital, where she died a short time later. Detectives said she had been stabbed several times in her upper torso.
Sheriff's deputies said Arturo Deandre Parra was still at the home when they arrived and was arrested at the scene. His father later told detectives that his son suffers from mental issues, attends therapy and was on medication, according to court documents obtained by ABC-7.
