State Reports First Pediatric Influenza Death

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) – A five-year-old Socorro County boy has died of complications from the flu.

That’s the word Tuesday from the state Department of Health said Tuesday. The department has reported 144 deaths from flu and pneumonia since October 1st.

Pneumonia is a common complication of the flu. New Mexico confirmed the first flu case in the state in mid-December.

The state now reports widespread flu activity. Flu season in New Mexico generally lasts through at least March.
