Bankruptcy Filing Leaves Court Security Officers Without Pay

EL PASO– Court security officers at the federal courthouse in El Paso have been working without pay since the company that hired them filed bankruptcy earlier this month,ABC 7 has learned.

U.S. Protect Services, which is based in Silver Springs, Maryland, went into involuntary bankruptcy last week.

Employees report the first sign of problems in January, when their payroll checks bounced. The company quickly fixed the problem, but last week, the checks bounced again.

This week, some officers discovered that employees’ 401 Kcontributions since mid-January were not documented.

The payroll situation has been fixed and no security issue arose during this time, said Mike Troyanski, with the U.S. Marshals Office.

“There’s been no impact here at the federal courthouse,” Troyanski said. “I have a committed, very dedicated and devoted staff. Though there was a disruption based on the contract. Fundamentally, our security and integrity remains the same as prior to any issue. It will remain that way throughout.”

TheU.S. Marshal’s Office says two new security companies have agreed to come in earlyand take over these contracts.
