Jorge Torres
Howdy! I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, yet am not affiliated by any means with the Longhorns. I would say the “weather bug” bit me at age 10, when the famous Jarrell F5 tornado struck the small town just north of Austin. I put family loyalties to UT aside to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a meteorologist. Therefore, I followed my passion for weather at the prestigious Texas A&M University (WHOOP) and graduated in May of 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Meteorology and a minor in Español. Two days after graduation, I hit the road to the Borderland so that I could begin my on-air career here at ABC-7.
It was in Aggieland where I learned about being involved in the community as well as my university. I joined several organizations including the Texas A&M Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, where I was president my senior year, and Omega Delta Phi, a service/social fraternity that has a chapter here at UTEP. I hope to bring a fresh and invigorating approach to the weather here in the Sun City.
Some of my many hobbies include exercising, listening to music, dancing (mainly salsa), watching the greatest dynasty to ever play the game of baseball (New York Yankees), Puerto Rican and Mexican food, spending time with family and friends, and a nice cup of café.
