Family Mourns Loss Of Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
By ABC-7’s Ken Molestina
An El Paso family is in mourning after their son was killed in Afghanistan.
Staff Sergeant Joshua Mills, 24, was killed on Wednesday, September 16. The Silva Magnet High School graduate was a Green Beret serving his second tour in Afghanistan.
The news of Joshua’s death isn’t easy for his family, but remembering him through his favorite songs makes his oldest brother’s tears just a bit less sour.
Quent Mills says his youngest brother excelled in the military, adding “he was doing what he wanted to do, and he was doing what he felt was right for this country.”
According to Quent, Joshua followed in the footsteps of their dad, who was also a veteran.
The Pentagon says Mills and two other soldiers were killed in Afghanistan after an improvised explosive device (IED) attack, and it was shortly after that Joshua’s family in El Paso received the news.
His brother says “you see it in the news; you see it in movies, then the car drives up, but it never prepares you…for it to be your family.”
Quent says he will remember his youngest brother as “a hero”, a family man dedicated to service and to protecting this country.
Staff Sergeant Joshua Mills leaves behind a wife and a 10-month-old son.
