Woman Dies After Hit-And-Run, Police Searching For Driver

A woman is dead after she is run over by a car on Transmountain Drive at about 6:25 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Police are searching for the driver.

El Paso police said Elizabeth Hernandez, 33, died at the scene.

They said she and Albina Sanchez, 28, were walking along Transmountain Drive near Resler Drive when the crash happened.

According to authorities, a car headed east on Transmountain Drive swerved into the westbound lanes.

That’s when two vehicles – a car and an SUV – in the westbound lanes reportedly swerved onto the emergency lane.

Police said the car headed west crashed with the car headed east. The eastbound car then took off.

The SUV slammed into Hernandez and Sanchez, according to investigators. They said both vehicles headed west stayed on the scene.

Authorities said Sanchez was rushed to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police are looking for the light-colored sedan and asks anyone who might have seen something to call authorities immediately.

According to police, this is the 17th pedestrian death this year as compared to three at this time last year.
