UTEP’s Homecoming Events This Week
Homecoming for the UTEP Miners has arrived, and The University of Texas at El Paso will mine for fun and memorable times on campus Sunday, Oct. 3 through Saturday Oct. 9.
UTEP has chosen the theme Around the World for the Homecoming festivities. The University invites the El Paso community to join in the celebration.
Listed below are some photo and interview opportunities during Miner Homecoming week 2010:
Wednesday, Oct. 6
Miner Morning Tailgate 5 a.m. Larry K. Durham Sports Center, Sun Bowl Drive, north parking lot Event includes:
* Live interviews with the 2010 Homecoming court, UTEP alumni and Miner fans * Performances by the UTEP Marching Miners, Golddiggers and UTEP cheerleaders * UTEP Food Services will host a ?tailgate? cookout
Lip Sync Contest 11 a.m. Union Plaza Stage
* Student organizations will compete in a lip sync contest for a cash prize.
Thursday, Oct 7
Parade Float-Making Party
6 p.m. to midnight P-9 parking lot by Kidd Field
* Student organizations will gather to build floats for the UTEP Homecoming parade on Friday.
Friday, Oct. 8
Homecoming Parade Noon The Homecoming parade will begin from the P-9 parking lot. It will turn south onto Randolph Drive, left on Robinson Avenue, followed by rights on Oregon Street and University Avenue. The procession will end at Wiggins Road with the pep rally at Memorial Triangle.
Pep Rally 1:15 p.m. Memorial Triangle
* The UTEP Marching Miners, cheerleaders and Golddiggers will rev up the crowd before Saturday?s Homecoming football game against the Rice Owls. Kick-off will be at 7:05 p.m.
Distinguished Alumni Dinner 6:30 p.m. Don Haskins Center Tickets: 915-747-8600 Sponsored by the UTEP Alumni Association, the dinner honors the 2010 Distinguished Alumni and Gold Nuggets.
The 2010 Distinguished Alumni include: Hank Cohen, CEO and partner, Trifecta Entertainment & Media; Mike Loya, president, Vitol Inc. energy company; and Ceci Miles Multihull, president, RMPersonnel.
The Gold Nuggets include: Robert W. ?Bill? Gilmer, vice president and senior economist of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, El Paso Branch; David Rapisand, director of financial analysis and overhead control for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. in Fort Worth, Texas; Susan Rutledge Crews, lead counselor for the El Paso Independent School District; Jose ?Joe? Cardenas, president of El Paso engineering firm Moreno Cardenas Inc.; Tomas ?Tom?
