Police: Woman Dies After Being Struck By Own Vehicle

A woman has died after being struck by her own vehicle Saturday afternoon on El Paso’s east side, police said.

El Paso police said they responded to a report of a woman struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Walgreens located at 1607 N. Zaragoza Road.

The officer who responded said he found Reyes Prieto, 80, on the ground with serious head injuries. She was transported to University Medical Center where she died of her injuries.

Police said they have learned that Prieto was getting out of her car when it began to roll backwards. Prieto then attempted to get inside the car but fell to the ground and was run over. Police said they believe the car rolled backwards because it had been left in gear.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified, police said.
