Local Texas National Guardsman Shot, Killed In Juarez

A Texas National Guardsman was one of two people shot and killed in South Juarez Wednesday afternoon, according to the Guardsman’s uncle.

Another person was wounded in the attack and taken to the hospital.

Their bodies were found at about 1 p.m. Wednesday along Luis Gutierrez and Elisa Griensen streets. They were shot multiple times with at least two different weapons and 18 shell casings were found at the scene.

A news release from Juarez officials identified the victims as 21-year-old Jose Gil Hernandez Ramirez and 42-year-old Rafael Ramirez Reza.

Hernandez’s uncle told ABC-7’s news partners in Juarez at XHIJ that Hernandez lived in El Paso and was in the Texas National Guard and has two other brothers – one also is in the Guard in Laredo and the other brother is serving in the military in Iraq.
