Police Release Details On Pedestrian Killed On Border Highway
El Paso Police have released more details on the Border Highway traffic accident Thursday night that led to the death of a pedestrian.
The investigation revealed that Jose Lara, 43, of Las Cruces was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu east bound on the Border Highway at 8:58 p.m. with a passenger, 14-year-old Jesus Lara of El Paso. At the same time, a male pedestrian from Mexico was crossing the Border Highway from south to north in the path of Lara’s vehicle. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, was struck by the vehicle and transported to University Medical Center where he died. Lara and his passenger were not injured. The identity of the deceased pedestrian is pending notification of next of kin. STI investigators have said that speed and alcohol are not factors in this collision.
This is the 55th traffic-related death in 2010 as compared to 48 at this time in 2009. This is the 18th fatal collision involving a pedestrian compared to six at this time in 2009.
