el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m bob harp. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. a live look at another status hearing has been scheduled for today in the case of accused killer david marmolejo. it’s set for 11 a-m at the county courthouse. the judge declared a mistrial earlier this month after the jury could not reach a unanimous decision. marmolejo is accused of strangling his mother, gloria, and then dumping her body in the desert. a gag order is still in place for the marmolejo family, the defense and prosecution. abc-7 will be at that hearing– look for the latest today at noon.// a borderland fugitive wanted in connection to a borderland fugitive wanted in connection to several investigations — includ including a murder case in socorro – has turned himself in to authorities. officials say victor ignacio gomez surrendered at the county jail downtown yesterday afternoon. he was wanted for aggravated assault, burglary and has been linked to a double murder in socorro. the 30-year-old was most recently accused of heading up a burglary ring in sparks. he was arrested during the sheriff’s office “operation dime drop” this summer… but was released on bond.// a former youth pastor from las cruces learned his punishment after entering a no- contest plea on charges of raping and molesting young girls. 31-year-old rico dominic escudero was sentenced to 30 years in prison. under a no contest plea, escudero doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a conviction if the case went to trial. prosecutors say he raped three girls he met throughis family’s church in 2005 and 2007. one of the victims was just 12-years old..// new this morning … a longtime deputy marshal in mesilla has resigned five weeks after state police arrested him for suspected drunken driving. joseph serna submitted his letter of resignation late monday. mesilla town officials suspended him without pay on october 12th. this, after new mexico state police stopped the 45-year-old september 19th as he drove on highway 28 near i-10. serna allegedly had a breath-alcohol content almost twice the legal limit. he had been in mesilla for 17 years and was the town’s longest serving employee.// the funeral and burial services for jose gil hernandez were held at mount carmel cemetery. dozens gathered at the lower valley cemetary yesterday to pay their last respects to hernandez. the 22-year old was gunned down by unknown men in south juarez last week. juarez last week. mexican investigators say he was killed along with a 43-year-old man… but it’s still unknown why. the national guard says hernandez lived in el paso and was not banned from going to mexico because he was not on active duty.// there seems to be no end in sight to the deadly and vicious attacks paralyzing mexico. gunmen killed 15 people at a car wash in the pacific coast state of nayarit — the third bloody massacre in mexico in less than a week!! police say the gunmen pulled up in three cars to the car wash yesterday and just opened fire. ide from the 15 people killed, three others were injured. officials say most of the victims were recovering drug addicts who had just gotten a fresh start working at the car wash.// authorities in juarez say gunmen killed three undercover mexican federal police officers tuesday night at the bridge of the americas. the officers were waiting on the mexican side of the bridge for a pers who was crossing the bridge from el paso. motorists crossing the bridge were reportedly told by officials there was a delay because of a shooting. in an unrelated attack, a chihuahua state police officer was killed yesterday in his juarez home.// f-b-i agents say they’ve been following a pakistani-born man’s every move for six- months… as he planned to blow-up subway stations. ey say he wanted to kill as many commuters as possible in the washington, d.c. area. brad wheelis has the latest on the investigat investigation. script: federal investigators say 34- year-old farooque ahmed thought he was plotting an al qaeda connected attack but it was all a ruse. federal investigators say the bomb plot suspect carefully chose suburban washington, d.c., subway stations… to have the maximum number of fatalities. the f-b-i says farooque ahmed… a u.s. citizen… planned to kill “as many military personnel as possible” … by targeting four busy metro stations near the pentagon. sot: “it’s crazy that we live in a day and time where people will threaten to do crazy things for nothing.” amhed’s alleged plot involved stashing bombs in rolling suitc in rolling suitcases and setting off explosions during a rush hour attack next year. agents say he had been videotaping subway stations. he allegedly handed over his recordings to someone he thought was with al qaeda… but it was a sting. “the fbi was aware of mr. ahmed’s activites before the alleged attempt began and closely monitored him until his arrest.” ahmed, his wife and son, live in a virginia suburb… where neighbors say… he kept a low profile. “i’m shocked, i never would have expected it out of him.” while commuters were shocked, investigators insist… ahmed posed no danger. “i want to make myself perfectly clear that at no time were any patrons, employees, or facilities associated with the washington metro transit system in jeopardy from the activity on the part of this young man.” wheelis on-camera close: and ahmed is in custody after making no plea to a long list of federal charges. brad wheelis abc news. a personal invitiation to perform in london. it sounds like something that would only happen in a dream. but it was reality for dozens of band and orchestra students in las cruces! good morning el paso’s stephanie valle is live to explain. stephanie. mayfield high school received an invitation fit for a king yesterday… a personal invitatio a personal invitation from a former leader to play for hundreds of thousands of people. the formerord mayor of westminster arrived by limousine at mayfield high school yesterday… where she was greeted by the drumline. catherine longworth was also treated to a performance by the orchestra, who played ‘oh america’ in her honor. longworth was making a stop in the city of the crosses to formally invite the marching band and orchestra to london to perform in the new year’s day parade!
