DEVELOPING: Rolling Outages to Resume

EL PASO, Texas — Rolling outages will resume in El Paso and Dona Ana County Thursday night. Officials with El Paso Electric say they’ll run from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, for up to an hour at a time.

The blackouts started Wednesday, after snow and freezing temps from a winter storm. El Paso Electric has been running without local power since Wednesday morning. All eight of its power generators are down and the company is depending on plants from out of town.

As a result, El Paso Electric is asking schools, major offices and businesses to curtail energy use. Many have announced plans to remain closed a third consecutive day Friday, at the request of the El Paso City-County Emergency Management Center.

If your outage lasts for more than an hour, call 877-3400 in Texas, or 575-523-7591 in New Mexico.
